I went to a training about Gender Principles by WERC

WHO says, Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, girls and boys that are socially constructed. This includes norms, behaviours and roles associated with being a woman, man, girl or boy, as well as relationships with each other. As a social construct, gender varies from society to society and can change over time!

Depending on your reading, your perception of gender may change. However, it is society that gives us these gender roles. But we don't have to put up with this, and no one has the right to give such a role to another person.

Because of this gender concept, women and marginalized communities often feel helpless in the society. We should not reproduce gender roles. We must stop flying into the future.

Here, I learned something new from this workshop, we are used to say Gender as ස්ත්‍රී පුරුෂ සාමාජභාවය in sinhala, but are there only men and women in the world? No right? So let’s say/practice නිකන්ම සමාජභාවය.

So tell me how this gender has affected your life?
